Bridal Bouquet Ideas Through the Seasons: A Guide to Seasonal, and Colorful Wedding Flowers
We’re big believers in seasonal floral design but let’s normalize not knowing what flowers are in season.
You’re planning a whole wedding, not cramming for a floristry final.
It’s not your job to know the bloom cycle of ranunculus or whether peonies show up in July — that’s my job.
At Urban Marigold, we design wedding flowers with personality. Your bridal bouquet isn’t just something to hold, it’s personal, it’s unique to you! Whether you're all about drama or love a subtle, sculptural moment, your wedding bouquet should feel just right for you and the season you’re getting married in.
When we work together, all you need is a vibe, a mood, or a Pinterest board that just feels like you. I’ll take it from there, designing something seasonal, beautiful, and thriving here in Southern California. This not only keeps things fresh and local (yes please), it also gives you the best of what nature has to offer.
So whether you’re dreaming of a spring flower bouquet or a bold fall cascading wedding bouquet, this guide to bridal bouquet ideas walks you through bouquet ideas for every season, plus petite options, colorful inspiration, and a few of our favorite real wedding moments in Orange County, Southern California.
Spring Bridal Bouquet Ideas: Fresh, Romantic, Colorful
Spring flowers are alll about color bursting through, layered textures, and that feeling of everything coming back to life. Late Spring is the season of local peonies, many being grown in the Pacific North West.
Spring flowers we love:
Peonies (hello, fluff and fragrance)
Ranunculus (delicate and layered)
Sweet peas (so fluttery and fragrant)
Tulips (classic or fringed—always a win)
Lilac (textural, fragrant and nostalgic)
Anemones (bold black or green centers and striking colors)
Calendula (a warm wash of yellow and apricot)
Butterfly Ranunculus (delicate, floaty, and full of color: blush, yellow, orange, deep pink)
If you’re a March–May couple, these are some of your MVPs.
Petite spring bouquet idea:
A small bouquet of pale pink ranunculus teamed with local lisianthus, fluttery sweet peas, and just a hint of sage green foliage, ideal for bridesmaids bouquets.
Colorful spring bouquet idea:
Try a bouquet with coral charm peonies, lavender anemones, and locally grown foliage. It’s playful, elegant, and totally spring.
Summer Bridal Bouquet Ideas: Bright, Bold, and Overflowinging
Summer is the season of abundance, and we’re here for it. With longer days and stunning California sunsets it’s the perfect time to go bold, especially when it comes to color. You can explore this vibrant summer wedding in Malibu here.
Our favorite summer blooms:
Zinnias (color-packed and grown locally)
Dahlias (the star of the show)
Cosmos (airy and wild)
Marigolds (a studio favorite—we’re obsessed)
Petite summer bouquet idea:
Chamomile, small cosmos, and vibrant zinnias for a playful garden-inspired bouquet with texture and personality.
Colorful summer bouquet inspiration:
We created this pastel dahlia bridal bouquet for a real wedding at Franciscan Gardens and leaned into soft peach, blush, and yellow tones. Local dahlias, Queen Anne’s lace, and lisianthus made it dreamy and romantic, and it absolutely glowed in golden hour light.
Fall Bridal Bouquet Ideas: Moody, Earthy, and Dramatic
Autumn is all about richness, color, texture, and structure. It’s the season of warmth and depth, perfect for brides who love a dramatic floral moment or want to incorporate dried elements and seasonal foliage.
Top fall flower picks:
Dahlias (again! But now in moody tones)
Amaranthus (cascading and sculptural)
Chrysanthemums (texture queens)
Marigolds (giving pops of color)
Berries, pods, and fall grasses
Petite fall bouquet idea:
A tight clutch of rust ranunculus, and burgundy scabiosa. Tied with velvet ribbon, this bouquet is equal parts rustic and refined.
Colorful fall bouquet inspiration:
We went for total drama in this real burgundy floral dream at Franciscan Gardens. The bridal bouquet featured deep burgundy anthurium, bold cymbidium orchids, and trailing blood-red amaranthus. No filler foliage, just statement blooms. Against the bride’s white gown and the bridesmaids’ black dresses? Total showstopper.
Winter Bridal Bouquets Ideas: Rich, and Unexpected
Winter bouquets give you a chance to play with contrast, with rich tones. Textures like evergreens, berries, and hellebores shine in the colder months.
Winter flowers we love:
Anemones (they can be so dramatic!)
Hellebores (muted and moody)
Roses (velvety in winter tones)
Petite winter bouquet idea:
White anemones, hellebores,
Colorful winter bouquet idea:
Burgundy ranunculus, blush roses, evergreen sprigs, and pops of plum.
Why Seasonal Bridal Bouquets Just Make Sense
We love a Pinterest mood board as much as the next florist, but sometimes those dreamy peonies in a December wedding photo? Not available. And when they are, they’re flown from far away and cost a small fortune.
That’s why we design with what’s in season and (whenever possible) what’s local. It’s better for the planet, better for your budget, and honestly, the flowers just look better when they’re in their natural rhythm.
Colorful Bridal Bouquets: Because Neutrals Aren’t for Everyone
Neutrals are lovely, but color has our heart. We design colorful wedding bouquets that are vibrant, joyful, and full of personality. Whether you want soft color-blocking or an all-out dramatic moment, we’ll help you find the right mix of bold and beautiful.
Want to lean into your wedding color palette? We can weave those tones into your bouquet. Want it to stand out on its own? Even better.
Colorful wedding bouquets photograph beautifully in all types of light and add personality to every image, from flat lays to first looks.
Planning Your Bridal Bouquet? Let’s Talk Flowers
We don’t do copy-paste bouquets over here.
Every one of our designs is made with care, connection, and a little bit of that Urban Marigold Floral magic. Bold? Romantic? Full of movement? Great - we’re in. Let’s make your bouquet the one you keep thinking about long after the wedding day.
And in case you’re wondering if flowers really leave that kind of impression, we’ll leave you with this fabulous quote from one of our Orange County weddings:
“My bouquet was so special that I am getting it preserved as well as drawn into a tattoo. Flowers were a big deal to me, and I feel incredibly lucky to have worked with Jen.”
We’re not crying, you’re crying.
